WHAT ARE THE DIMENTIONS IN INTERCULTRAL COMMUNICATIONS

DIMENTIONALIZING CULTURES
GEERT HOFSTEDE is an academia who has done a lot of research in to culture and intercultural communication mostly using statistics in establishing his facts but for me this is very interesting because one would ask what does communication has in common with statistics or better still figures? This is how inter-related world is and all there is in it.

His definition of culture is “Culture is the collective programming of the mind that distinguishes the members of one group or category of people from others” more comprehensive and self esteeming because it is exactly the situation in our daily life where one is easily identified with the believe of who they are, where they coming from and their unique cultural practices.

The introduction of the five cultural dimension and its variations are more challenging because once it is understood and well applied to our day to day activities would make it comfortable to relate and interact with people from different cultural backgrounds, this is because one would have come to accepted the fact that we are one people but from different parts of the world and that we need each other to survive as individuals and as a nation.

This for me is the self orientation of once mind and a societal orientation bearing in mind that human actions vary depending on the situations since neutrality, self dignity, appling general standards taking in to consideration particular relationships and its benefits to classifying cultures in the individual’s perspective.

Therefore I conclude that intercultural communications and its dimensions are necessary tools in indentifying cultural groups when one move from one society to the other and when they take new jobs.
